Tennis Galaxy of Apopka is Home of the Volt Method: “Think it. Do it. Feel it.”
We teach people of all ages and physical abilities how to connect and optimize their thoughts, actions, and senses to build and refine their athletic performance. The three-step process of thinking it, then doing it, and then “feeling it” creates an internal feedback loop that accelerates progress. The Volt Method promotes healthy tennis techniques while also benefitting all areas of motor learning.
Serving Apopka and Central Florida, Tennis Galaxy’s programs are offered at the Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka. Stop by, or reach us by email or phone.
Peter Fazekas, USPTA Elite Professional (Professional 1)
Founder and Director of Coaching
Peter Fazekas (pronounced, FAH-ze-kosh) is Tennis Galaxy’s founder and director of coaching. He earned an Elite Professional (Professional I) coaching certification from the USPTA in 2000 and is Safe Play approved by the U.S. Tennis Association.
Peter was a multi-sport athlete in his native Hungary and earned a Master of Education from the Hungarian University of Physical Education, with coaching certifications in six sports: tennis, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, track and field, and basketball. Peter's tennis coaching career spans three decades and two continents, from Budapest to London, to Minnesota and Florida.
Peter is a dynamic tennis instructor who helps people of all abilities -- from five-year-olds to elite athletes to aging seniors -- improve their athletic performance through a unique process of connecting thoughts to actions and to internal feedback.
Since founding Tennis Galaxy in Apopka in 2005, Peter has helped improve the lives of hundreds of Central Floridians. He is most proud of his work to inspire entire families to be more active and to eat healthier. Peter has coached multiple youth tennis players to championships and believes in leading by example: he stays healthy and fit, and aims to inspire others to do the same. He is a two-time Florida state tennis champion in the 4.5 Men's Doubles Division with doubles partner and business colleague Ignacio Monsalve.
Peter spends part of his days writing a book to share his unique coaching approach, The Volt Method.
Darrin Jolly
Coach and Hitting Partner
Darrin’s tennis journey began when he was four years old, and he started competing in tournaments at the age of eight. He played on to become the number one ranked junior player in Iowa, where he also won high school conference and district championships in both singles and doubles. He brought his talents to Florida as an adult, and recently won the men’s division of the ApopCup city-wide tennis tournament.
As a Tennis Galaxy instructor, Darrin embraces the Volt Method and Coach Peter’s teaching methodologies, taking a holistic approach that focuses on both physical and mental development.
When Darrin isn’t on the court, he’s cherishing time with his wife and two sons, who are also Tennis Galaxy students. “I’m thrilled to join the Tennis Galaxy family and eager to guide students toward reaching their tennis goals,” Darrin said.
Darrin is the lead instructor for the Juniors’ Level 2 classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He also is available for private lessons and hitting practice.
Elizabeth “Lulu” Beary
Guest Coach, Juniors
A former Apopka high school tennis player who went on to set a school record while playing for her college team, Lulu is a valued contributor to the Tennis Galaxy kids’ program.
At the age of nine, Lulu became a student of Tennis Galaxy’s founder Peter Fazekas. Lulu became a state quarterfinalist during her junior year at Apopka High School and then played for four years at Montreat College in North Carolina—including three years in the “line one” position—where she set a record for most wins ever for the women’s team, was recognized as a scholar-athlete and received the “coach’s award.” She continued to train with Peter throughout her competitive career, including training and assistant coaching when she came home from college for summer breaks.
Lulu graduated Spring 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and coached regularly for Tennis Galaxy from June 2020 through April 2021. She and her husband have now relocated out of state but keep an eye out for her because she sometimes makes cameo appearances and is always a welcome guest coach when she’s in town to visit.
William “Tony” Raney, PTR 1
Guest Coach and Hitting Partner
Although Tony was a multi-sport athlete in high school, it is his love of tennis that has been consistent through all phases of his life, including when he left his native Orlando to pursue a career as a professional musician. Tony continued playing tournament and club tennis while away. Upon returning to Florida from Nashville, Tenn. in 2020, Tony discovered the Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka, where he now can be found almost every day, training, playing and helping others discover a love for tennis.
Now coaching juniors classes and providing individual lessons for youth players, Coach Tony is a committed advocate for mental health, especially for children. He believes physical activity is a powerful tool for healthy development, healing, and management of mental health. Coach Tony strives to nurture a safe, supportive community to help students grow and thrive. He is a PTR Level 1-certified tennis instructor and also is Safe Play approved by the U.S. Tennis Association and First Aid/CPR/AED certified by the American Red Cross.
When he’s not on the court, Tony is watching more tennis, adding to his comic book collection, searching for a great espresso with his wife Kayla, and hiding his tennis gear from the couple's dogs Ranger and Ezra.
Ignacio Monsalve
Guest Coach and Visiting Expert on Mental Strength
Ignacio began his tennis career at a young age in his home country of Colombia, where he became an elite junior player. He then competed at the collegiate level in the U.S. and went on to win numerous tournaments on the USTA circuit. Among Ignacio’s accomplishments is becoming a two-time Florida state tennis champion in the 4.5 Men's Doubles Division with doubles partner and Tennis Galaxy founder Peter Fazekas.
Ignacio coached full-time with Tennis Galaxy prior to relocating to southwest Florida, where he coached at the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute. He regularly speaks at forums on tennis teaching innovation and the latest training techniques in tennis and fitness. He is the Director of Elite Tennis, Sports Training and Consumer Products for Windermere Exercise Company.
Ignacio is a visiting expert who helps Tennis Galaxy’s elite players and their families prepare mentally for competition and for providing support to the whole person, not just the athlete. Ignacio also is a guest coach for Tennis Galaxy’s special classes and events focusing on specific technique and tactics. Ignacio is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Kelly Morphy
Business Development Consultant and Guest Juniors Coach
Kelly lived and breathed only soccer … until at the age of 45 she learned to hit a top-spin forehand.
Kelly's primary role as a consultant to Tennis Galaxy is to build and sustain new programs and to advance partnerships and initiatives that promote community health. Since taking up tennis, though, she also has trained to compete in tournaments and leagues and to coach youth beginner players. Kelly has been an on-call instructor for Tennis Galaxy's junior classes since 2019. She is a PTR Level 1-certified tennis instructor and also is Safe Play approved by the U.S. Tennis Association and First Aid/CPR/AED certified by the American Red Cross.
Although soccer was her first love, Kelly lettered in six different sports in high school. She then doubled down on the Beautiful Game and played soccer for the Univ. of San Francisco and for the Guam Women’s National Team. She earned a “C License” coaching certification from the Asian Football (Soccer) Confederation and coached high school soccer on Guam and youth soccer in Winter Garden before discovering tennis in Apopka.
Kelly’s coaching style is positive and attentive—informed by her experience as a mom of three children—and she focuses on helping young players in beginner classes develop motor skills, coordination, comfort with a racket, spatial awareness, and collaboration skills. As a competitor, Kelly splits her time between the tennis court and the soccer pitch, where she embraces her role as an aging athlete and true “soccer mom.”
