Tennis Galaxy of Apopka is Home of the Volt Method: “Think it. Do it. Feel it.”

We teach people of all ages and physical abilities how to connect and optimize their thoughts, actions, and senses to build and refine their athletic performance. The three-step process of thinking it, then doing it, and then “feeling it” creates an internal feedback loop that accelerates progress. The Volt Method promotes healthy tennis techniques while also benefitting all areas of motor learning.

Serving Apopka and Central Florida, Tennis Galaxy’s programs are offered at the Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka. Stop by, or reach us by email or phone.

Peter Fazekas, USPTA Elite Professional (Professional 1)

Founder and Director of Coaching

Peter Fazekas (pronounced, FAH-ze-kosh) is Tennis Galaxy’s founder and director of coaching. He earned an Elite Professional (Professional I) coaching certification from the USPTA in 2000 and is Safe Play approved by the U.S. Tennis Association.

Peter was a multi-sport athlete in his native Hungary and earned a Master of Education from the Hungarian University of Physical Education, with coaching certifications in six sports: tennis, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, track and field, and basketball. Peter's tennis coaching career spans three decades and two continents, from Budapest to London, to Minnesota and Florida.

Peter is a dynamic tennis instructor who helps people of all abilities -- from five-year-olds to elite athletes to aging seniors -- improve their athletic performance through a unique process of connecting thoughts to actions and to internal feedback.

Since founding Tennis Galaxy in Apopka in 2005, Peter has helped improve the lives of hundreds of Central Floridians. He is most proud of his work to inspire entire families to be more active and to eat healthier. Peter has coached multiple youth tennis players to championships and believes in leading by example: he stays healthy and fit, and aims to inspire others to do the same. He is a two-time Florida state tennis champion in the 4.5 Men's Doubles Division with doubles partner and business colleague Ignacio Monsalve.

Peter spends part of his days writing a book to share his unique coaching approach, The Volt Method.

Darrin Jolly

Coach and Hitting Partner

Darrin’s tennis journey began when he was four years old, and he started competing in tournaments at the age of eight. He played on to become the number one ranked junior player in Iowa, where he also won high school conference and district championships in both singles and doubles. He brought his talents to Florida as an adult, and recently won the men’s division of the ApopCup city-wide tennis tournament.

As a Tennis Galaxy instructor, Darrin embraces the Volt Method and Coach Peter’s teaching methodologies, taking a holistic approach that focuses on both physical and mental development.

When Darrin isn’t on the court, he’s cherishing time with his wife and two sons, who are also Tennis Galaxy students. “I’m thrilled to join the Tennis Galaxy family and eager to guide students toward reaching their tennis goals,” Darrin said.

Darrin is the lead instructor for the Juniors’ Level 2 classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He also is available for private lessons and hitting practice.

Elizabeth “Lulu” Beary

Guest Coach, Juniors

A former Apopka high school tennis player who went on to set a school record while playing for her college team, Lulu is a valued contributor to the Tennis Galaxy kids’ program.

At the age of nine, Lulu became a student of Tennis Galaxy’s founder Peter Fazekas. Lulu became a state quarterfinalist during her junior year at Apopka High School and then played for four years at Montreat College in North Carolina—including three years in the “line one” position—where she set a record for most wins ever for the women’s team, was recognized as a scholar-athlete and received the “coach’s award.” She continued to train with Peter throughout her competitive career, including training and assistant coaching when she came home from college for summer breaks.

Lulu graduated Spring 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and coached regularly for Tennis Galaxy from June 2020 through April 2021. She and her husband have now relocated out of state but keep an eye out for her because she sometimes makes cameo appearances and is always a welcome guest coach when she’s in town to visit.

William “Tony” Raney, PTR 1

Guest Coach and Hitting Partner

Although Tony was a multi-sport athlete in high school, it is his love of tennis that has been consistent through all phases of his life, including when he left his native Orlando to pursue a career as a professional musician. Tony continued playing tournament and club tennis while away. Upon returning to Florida from Nashville, Tenn. in 2020, Tony discovered the Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka, where he now can be found almost every day, training, playing and helping others discover a love for tennis.

Now coaching juniors classes and providing individual lessons for youth players, Coach Tony is a committed advocate for mental health, especially for children. He believes physical activity is a powerful tool for healthy development, healing, and management of mental health. Coach Tony strives to nurture a safe, supportive community to help students grow and thrive. He is a PTR Level 1-certified tennis instructor and also is Safe Play approved by the U.S. Tennis Association and First Aid/CPR/AED certified by the American Red Cross.

When he’s not on the court, Tony is watching more tennis, adding to his comic book collection, searching for a great espresso with his wife Kayla, and hiding his tennis gear from the couple's dogs Ranger and Ezra.

Ignacio Monsalve

Guest Coach and Visiting Expert on Mental Strength

Ignacio began his tennis career at a young age in his home country of Colombia, where he became an elite junior player. He then competed at the collegiate level in the U.S. and went on to win numerous tournaments on the USTA circuit. Among Ignacio’s accomplishments is becoming a two-time Florida state tennis champion in the 4.5 Men's Doubles Division with doubles partner and Tennis Galaxy founder Peter Fazekas.

Ignacio coached full-time with Tennis Galaxy prior to relocating to southwest Florida, where he coached at the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute. He regularly speaks at forums on tennis teaching innovation and the latest training techniques in tennis and fitness. He is the Director of Elite Tennis, Sports Training and Consumer Products for Windermere Exercise Company.

Ignacio is a visiting expert who helps Tennis Galaxy’s elite players and their families prepare mentally for competition and for providing support to the whole person, not just the athlete. Ignacio also is a guest coach for Tennis Galaxy’s special classes and events focusing on specific technique and tactics. Ignacio is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Kelly Morphy

Business Development Consultant and Guest Juniors Coach

Kelly lived and breathed only soccer … until at the age of 45 she learned to hit a top-spin forehand.

Kelly's primary role as a consultant to Tennis Galaxy is to build and sustain new programs and to advance partnerships and initiatives that promote community health. Since taking up tennis, though, she also has trained to compete in tournaments and leagues and to coach youth beginner players. Kelly has been an on-call instructor for Tennis Galaxy's junior classes since 2019. She is a PTR Level 1-certified tennis instructor and also is Safe Play approved by the U.S. Tennis Association and First Aid/CPR/AED certified by the American Red Cross.

Although soccer was her first love, Kelly lettered in six different sports in high school. She then doubled down on the Beautiful Game and played soccer for the Univ. of San Francisco and for the Guam Women’s National Team. She earned a “C License” coaching certification from the Asian Football (Soccer) Confederation and coached high school soccer on Guam and youth soccer in Winter Garden before discovering tennis in Apopka.

Kelly’s coaching style is positive and attentive—informed by her experience as a mom of three children—and she focuses on helping young players in beginner classes develop motor skills, coordination, comfort with a racket, spatial awareness, and collaboration skills. As a competitor, Kelly splits her time between the tennis court and the soccer pitch, where she embraces her role as an aging athlete and true “soccer mom.”

Policies

This page was last updated on August 1, 2024.

Thank you for taking the time to review Tennis Galaxy’s policies. If you have a special situation that requires attention, please simply reach out to us. We aim to be helpful in supporting your tennis journey.

Registration forms required

Every person who participates in any Tennis Galaxy program, class, camp, lesson, hitting session, clinic, or other activity must have a complete set of current, executed registration forms on file with Tennis Galaxy. The forms are available here and can be returned in hard copy or by email.

Group classes and programs

Parental attendance at juniors classes

Parents are asked to wait off-court and outside the fenced area while their player trains. Young players can be walked onto the court to be checked in with the coach, but parents should plan to wait outside the fenced area. At the end of classes, parents can meet their players and the coach at the gate. We have directly observed over the course of decades of coaching that this physical distance from their parents results in players being better able to focus on their coaches, their peers, and their tasks.

Cancellations due to weather

If weather becomes an issue, we often don't know until the last minute. If we must delay a class or lesson, or cancel it completely, we will send a text message to anyone registered for the full class cycle or for that day as a drop-in. (Please keep your phone number updated in your online profile.) If the courts are wet and we aren't there at the start time, but you haven't received a text, please wait at least 15 minutes, as we may be returning from the amphitheater. If lightning is detected, outdoors programming is immediately suspended and resumes only when the City’s lightning-detection system sounds the all-clear signal.

If the weather cancels a pre-paid class, we will offer a rain-date class or, at the end of the cycle, we will deposit a prorated credit into your online Tennis Galaxy account that can be applied to a future class or program. If weather interrupts a class in progress, then: if the class is less than halfway completed, a prorated credit will be issued; if it is more than halfway completed, no credit will be issued.

For juniors’ classes: If the courts are wet but there isn't lightning in the area, we move the class to the amphitheater across the park to work on hand-eye coordination and footwork skills. If you arrive at the tennis courts and we aren't there but you haven't received a notification that the class is canceled, please find the class at the amphitheater.

Classes missed by the student

A student enrolled and paid up-to-date for a full cycle of classes can request in advance one makeup class per cycle to accommodate their scheduling conflicts or illness. A makeup class should be requested in advance of the missed class by emailing Tennis Galaxy; please don’t text makeup requests. Makeup classes aren’t available for every level of play; if a makeup class isn’t available, a prorated account credit will be issued at the end of the cycle of classes. Policies for missed classes may be modified during the summer break when local schools are not in session; contact Tennis Galaxy for summertime policies.

Private lessons and hitting-partner sessions

Cancellations and no-shows

We thank you in advance for understanding that due to the exclusivity of private lessons and hitting-partner sessions, late cancellations create an extreme hardship for Tennis Galaxy and our coaches.

A booked private lesson or hitting-partner session can be canceled or rescheduled by a student without a fee if notice is provided at least 48 hours in advance. If already paid, it can be rescheduled or refunded as an account credit. A lesson/session is considered “booked” once confirmed by email or invoice from the Tennis Galaxy registration platform. If booked within the 48-hour window, it still is subject to the full cancellation policy.

A lesson/session canceled or rescheduled within the 48-hour window will be charged at a percentage of the lesson/session rate, as follows:

  • 25 percent if notice is given between 24 and 48 hours in advance of the start time;

  • 50 percent if notice is given between one hour and 24 hours in advance of the start time; and

  • 100 percent for a no-show. A lesson/session is considered a no-show if notification isn’t provided by the scheduled start time and the player isn’t on the court within 20 minutes of the scheduled start time.

A student’s arrival after the scheduled start time but before 20 minutes may result in a shortened lesson/session; it will be charged as a full lesson/session.

Hitting-partner session tokens

Some Tennis Galaxy coaches are available as hitting partners. A hitting partner uses their skills for unstructured play, structured play, or point play; the session doesn’t include a lesson plan, feeding balls, analysis, or instruction.

Only players who take private lessons or classes with Tennis Galaxy can earn tokens for hitting-partner sessions; tokens entitle a player to book a session at the hitting partner’s published rate. The number of sessions is limited, as follows:

  • A token that is good through the following week will be issued for each private lesson taken.

  • A token that is good through the following week will be issued for the second class taken within two weeks.

Players can sign up for one-on-one hitting sessions or doubles against a single hitting partner; if doubles, each player pays the hitting partner’s published rate and redeems a token.

Payments and withdrawals

Payments are due the day of the lesson, class, or program. Full-cycle payments are due the first day that class is held. Overdue balances will be invoiced once as a courtesy; overdue balances will be charged during the second week to the primary credit card on the account. Generally, there will be no refunds after a program’s start date, except for the policies described herein. For special circumstances due to injury or long-term illness, please contact Tennis Galaxy.

Refunds

Tennis Galaxy provides refunds in the form of account credits. Account credits may be used for any tennis-related service—such as lessons, classes, gift certificates, camps, and hitting-partner sessions—up to one year after being issued. If a credit card refund is required by the client and the program hasn’t begun yet, a full monetary refund minus credit card fees (up to 5 percent) will be issued; if the program has already begun, a prorated monetary refund minus credit card fees and minus an additional 15 percent cancellation fee will be issued. Tennis Galaxy will provide a full monetary refund including credit card fees if a program is discontinued due to low enrollment before a program begins or on a prorated basis if discontinued after a program has begun.

Summer: modified absence policy for group classes

The absence policy is modified for summertime—from the week that Orange County Public Schools begin the summer break, until they return to class in August.

We are excited that so many of our players have travel and camp plans this summer. Recognizing that families need some flexibility with their registrations to accommodate those plans, Tennis Galaxy's policy for regular, full-registration classes is amended for the period when schools are on summer break. As there will be more class options during the summer and a player's growth in tennis benefits greatly from consistency and frequency, our priority will be to recommend and hold space for your player in makeup classes. When makeups aren't a viable option, the following will apply:

1.    With at least two weeks' advance notice of an extended absence (such as for travel or summer camps), Tennis Galaxy will refund as an account credit the portion of classes a player can't attend. The credit can be used for any Tennis Galaxy service through the end of the calendar year. This is the most flexible option, it guarantees the player's spot in the class, and it is easiest to administer. We appreciate families using this option if possible.

2.    If needed, we can accommodate families who need to limit their initial registration to only a portion of classes in the cycle. The dates of attendance will need to be specified in advance and additional drop-in availability can't be guaranteed. If you require this option, please email peter@tennisinapopka.com to coordinate.

If a class is cancelled in advance due to inclement weather, an account credit will be provided. In case of unplayable court conditions, alternative activities are offered in the forms of conditioning at the Amphitheater and/or classroom work in the building discussing tennis rules, scoring, history and science.

When in doubt, please connect

For any special circumstances—such as injury, educational opportunities, long-term illness, career changes, and so forth—please contact Tennis Galaxy.
