Rules: 2022 Men’s Division
Last updated October 18, 2022
The Apopka tennis title series consists of three seasons per year. Each season runs four months: matchplay is one Saturday morning per month, for three months, with finalists advancing to the fourth-month finals. The season winner's name is added to the roving trophy, which is housed by the season winner until the next season.
Format
The Fall 2022 season is an 8-player singles bracket. The draw for the first matchday is randomized and conducted that morning in the presence of the players. Subsequent matchdays have #1 and #2 seeds based on their score heading into the matchday; the remaining six players are placed into the draw randomly. All players compete in the first three matchdays; the top players advance to the finals.
Dates and Times
The men’s divisions for Fall 2022 will be played from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays: August 20, September 17, October 15, and November 12. Check-in is at 9:30 a.m. All matches are at Northwest Recreation Complex in Apopka.
Payment to Reserve Spot
A player’s spot in the tournament isn’t guaranteed until payment in full is made.
Rain Dates
If weather interferes with the completion of matches that would impact scores and chances for advancing, a rain date will be set by the Tournament Director.
Rankings and Advancing
Every game matters. Players earn points for games won, with "multipliers" applied according to the player's positions in that day's bracket. A leaderboard will be posted, and the top four players after three matchdays (three months) will advance to the finals in the fourth month.
Matchplay
Each matchday is three rounds of first-to-five matches, with 7-point tiebreaks at 4-4. The season finals (the fourth month) are regulation sets in a round-robin format. ITF scoring rules apply all season.
Withdrawals and No-Shows
The Tournament Director will assign replacement players in the event of withdrawals or no-shows. The replacement players may come from the waitlist, or from Tennis Galaxy’s roster of coaches. If a coach stand-in is utilized, the coach won't earn points or be eligible for the title.
Refunds
Refunds will not be issued. Should any portion of the tournament be canceled or rescheduled at a time the player can’t participate, a prorated credit will be deposited to the player’s Tennis Galaxy account. No refund or credit will be issued for a player’s withdrawal.
Trophy Ownership
The hardware up for grabs is a “roving trophy,” which means it remains the property of the tournament and must be returned to the Tournament Director at the start of the next season.
The decisions of the Tournament Director are final.
Sample player results:
See below for a sample outcome of the first matchday.
In the sample scenario, Player A won the first round of the day 5-3, won the second round 5-2, and won the third round 5-2. Thus, Player A earned 60 points for the day.
During the same matchday, Player D lost the first round 4-5, lost the second round 3-5, and won the third round 5-4. Thus, Player D earned 27 points for the day.
Both players carry their points into the next matchday (the following month.)
Sticking with Player A, let’s assume his second matchday results are: win 5-3, loss 2-5, and win 5-4. He ends the day with 43 points and adds those to his first matchday result (60 points) and now has a total of 103 points heading into the third matchday. After the third matchday, if he’s in the top 4 players, he will advance to the finals in the fourth month. If he plays in the finals and wins, he takes home the nifty trophy with his name added to it. And of course, whether he plays in the finals or not, he will have an opportunity to play again in the next season.
